Prachinburi - In the embrace of natural parkland

Prachinburi is situated 130 kilometers to the east of Bangkok. This natural and agricultural province is sandwiched between the Cambodian border and Bangkok. Home to many ruins from the Dvaravati and Khmer periods. It is very well known as the land of Fruit and Herbs, several kinds of fruit such as Durian, Santol, Jackfruit, Bamboo Shoots, Cantaloupe etc. are very famous and usually been Awarded from Thailand Annual Fruit Festival every year.

Furthermore Prachinburi is also a picturesque province, with its National Parks of Khao Yai, Thap Lan and Pang Sida, which together cover over 3,000 square kilometers and make up the largest protected area in Thailand. Since 2005, they were announced as The World Heritage Site. At Khao Yai National Park, the Kaeng Hin Phoeng in Nadi District of Prachinburi is a stretch of river noted for its wild beauty. The water is very vigorous during the rainy months (June-October), and some stretches are designated Level 5, the uppermost limit to whitewater rafting. Thap Lan contains many plants from the palm family, especially the Talipot Palms (Known as “Bai Lan”) whose leaves were used for Buddhist manuscripts.

 

Walking through history ...
Prachinburi had a long history of civilization of about 800 years ago, which established during the Dvaravati Period, the history of this city dated back to the sixth century in Sri Mahosot District, where the ancient city called Muang Sri Mahosot was built. The archaeological evidence includes moat, rampart, monuments, pounds well as art objects which reveal the influences of Dvaravati and Khmer Arts from the 6 th century up the 13th Century.

Climate
Prachinburi has an alternative climate of both dry and damp; Tropical rain in the southeast, monsoon season causes damp and rain throughout the season. North-western wind in cool season causes dryness. There are 3 different seasons; Rainy, during June – October. Winter, during November – February and Dry, during March – May. The average temperature of the year is approximately 27-32 degree Celsius or 83-90 degree Fahrenheit.

Muang District
 
Khao Yai, or “Big Mountain”, sprawls over parts of Prachinburi, Nakhon Ratchasima and Nakhon Nayok. It is the most popular National Park in Thailand, attracting one million visitors a year with its scenic beauty and abundant plant and wildlife. Khao Yai has four Vegetation Zones, spanning elevation from 100 meters to more than 1,400 meters; Evergreen Rainforest, Semi-Evergreen, Mixed Deciduous and Hill Evergreen Forest. It is home to a large array of birds and animals, any time of the year is suitable for visiting. Fifty trails follow the migratory paths of wildlife to beautiful waterfalls, commonly spotted animals include gibbons, langurs, deer and monkeys. You can join a night time safari in which rangers shine spotlight onto night-feeding herds, making them easier to spot.
 

Suan Phan Phai is a bamboo orchard that cultivates many types of bamboo plants for study and propagation.

Chao Phraya Aphaiphubete Herbal Museum it was constructed by the budget of Chao Phraya Aphaiphubete in 1909 as a residence for King Rama V on his royal visit to Prachinburi. Its architecture is a 2 storey Renaissance building with the front porch featuring a central dome. Floral design ornate the outside walls, doors and windows.

Prachinburi National Museum is the collection house of artifacts and antiquities discovered In Prachinburi and other Eastern provinces.

Wat Kaew Phichit the monastery's architecture is a striking combination of Thai, Chinese, European and Khmer styles.

Wat San Si Bird Sanctuary the temple ground provides a roosting place for many species of birds.

 
Sri Mahosot District


Wat Ton Pho Sri Maha Phote inside the monastery is a Buddhist tree estimated to be about 2,000 years old.

Luang Phor Tawaravadee the ancient Buddha image is in the exquisite form of Twaravadee art.

Sra Morakot Historical Site an excavation done on the site uncovered the largest and oldest of Lord Buddha's footprints in Thailand.

 
Sri Mahaphote District

The Monument of Handwriting of King Rama V the monument contains the handwriting of King Chulachomklao, which was inscribed on to a literate slab.
 
Prachantakam District

Takro Waterfall the main feature of the waterfall is the big rapids and a suspension bridge that spanned across the width of the waterfall.

Salad Dai Waterfall is beautiful and dignified in its primordial condition.

Tan Thip Waterfall is formed by a stream flowing through different levels of rock formations.

Sompoi Waterfall this medium-height waterfall cascades through many levels of rock formations. It provides natural swimming pools on different levels.

 
Nadi District


Thap Lan National Park being the last natural palm forest, contains many plants from the palm family, especially the talipot palms whose leaves were used for Buddhist manuscripts. Further during April and June, the rare palm trees in this area have yellow flower, there are also dry dipterocarp forests which are the habitats of wild animals, and a variety of species of birds.

Kang Hin Phoeng White water Rafting, these beautiful and large rapids are in the Sai Yai River. This area is under the responsibility of the Khao Yai National Park unit 9, Nadi District, it is most popular for the challenging and enjoyable white water rafting during the rainy season in July till November.

Makkha Purami Sri Prachin Festival is held on the Makkha Bucha Day of every year, between March of every year.

The Rocket Festival is held on Visakha Bucha Day of every year, between May of every year.

Shooting Rapids at Kaeng Hin Phoeng Week is held between July and August of every year.

Prachin Buri's Industrial Fair is held between December and January of every year.
